Every spring, the graduation banners line displayed along Main Street in Spirit River serving as a meaningful reminder of the students, families, and local businesses that make the community strong. For DFI Piling, supporting the graduating class has become a valued tradition rooted in community involvement and in celebrating the next generation.
Supporting Local Families and Student Success
What started as admiring that tradition from a distance has grown into something much more personal for DFI Piling. Its first graduation sponsorship came in 2024, when the company supported Janric, son of a former employee. In 2025, the tradition continued with Shanelle, daughter of DFI heavy haul driver Darren.
“I noticed the signs each year since moving to the region but never had a connection to sponsor a graduate. When one of our employees shared that his son was seeking sponsorship, it felt like a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate our support as a local employer and strengthen our connection with the community. Now, being able to support my own daughter and her classmates makes it even more meaningful.” said John Black – Regional Manager at DFI Piling Grande Prairie.
The graduation banners have become a highly anticipated tradition throughout Spirit River, bringing the community together each year to celebrate local students and their accomplishments. Families and friends eagerly share photos and congratulations, while residents look forward to seeing the banners displayed alongside the town’s beautiful seasonal flowers.
DFI Piling’s Commitment to the Spirit River and Rycroft Communities
Graduate sponsorships are one piece of a bigger story. DFI Piling has been a consistent community partner across Spirit River, Rycroft, and the Peace Region for years, showing up not just for milestones, but throughout the year, including:
- Race the 8
- Spirit River Kinettes
- Alberta High School Rodeo
- Spirit River Curling Rink
- Rycroft community initiatives
- Local fundraising events and youth programs
The company has also contributed to the annual ice melt fundraiser and, while operating in Rycroft, provided part-time employment opportunities for local students. In some cases, those after-school roles developed into full-time careers after graduation.
Celebrating the Next Generation
As another graduating class reaches this important milestone, DFI Piling is proud to stand alongside Spirit River families in recognizing the hard work, dedication, and bright futures of local students.
To every graduate this year: congratulations on everything you’ve worked for. Whatever comes next, whether that’s post-secondary, a trade, travel, or jumping straight into the workforce, we’re cheering you on.
